Ambient Dance Trio, Emmecosta, Drop Decadent New EP
The guys of Swedish-Italian electronic trio, Emmecosta, are tackling the club scene head-on with innovative approaches to sonic mastery. On their new EP, Velour, released last month with Swedish record label ICEA, they offer dreamy synth-based tunes to swoon over.
Velour opens with "Miguel," a tender dance track that moves through distant harmony and layers of thick, slapping percussion. A jarring keyboard rhythm continuously pulses underneath a wavy rhythm line as breathy vocals float above the music. Next comes "Heavy Heart," a dark club banger led by ambient synth flourishes. Here, the instrumentation distorts and throbs with a schizophrenic energy perfect for losing yourself on the dance floor. The EP's halfway point finds "His Power Of Youth," a lush, sparkling indie gem that defies genres. The track opens with shimmering chimes and echoing piano beats before an eerie, airy vocal delivery enters atop the rich, otherworldly arrangement. Velour ends with the tropically-influenced electronic anthem, "A Mountain From Us." Mini explosions of vibrant synthesizers ring with urgency, the vocals are at their best and most versatile, and layers of piercing instrumentation create an ambient dance vibe.
On Velour, Emmecosta master sleepy late-night introspection with their decadent, layered electronic club bangers. The production is heavy-handed, pairing melodic strings with punchy percussion, all pulsing beneath hazy vocals. The EP is full of swoon-worthy soundscapes your body will demand to sway to.
