Melbourne Singer Emily Soon Releases Moving Single "Good Help Is Hard To Find"
Somewhere in Melbourne there’s an artist named Emily Soon exploring vast sonic palettes, her voice a vehicle for sweet reflections to cruise on. On her latest single, “Good Help Is Hard To Find,” her first release in three years, Emily delivers her most stirring effort yet.
Hear what Emily had to tell us about the new single below:
“Good Help Is Hard To Find” is a slow swarm of poetry. It’s jam-packed with little sparkling details but before we even hear those, we get a decadent minute of lazing acoustic strums and swelling synth and subtle piano plinks. The first half of “Good Help” suggests we’ll sit with Emily’s soft, aching murmur for the length of the song, a mere lullaby, but suddenly, the cymbals crash and we’re plunged into a smash of atmospheric alt-rock — Emily’s voice is lost in the foggy, fuzzy crowd of percussion, there’s a new voice adding harmony, and there are thicker layers of booming rhythm. And then, as quickly as the climax hit, things drop back down again for another 30 seconds of dreamy vocal delivery before returning and concluding once again on the quilt of gut-punch lo-fi textures she’s woven. Like an act of hypnosis, “Good Help Is Hard To Find” meanders between the waking world and the sleep state, stunning and stirring in all its woozy goodness.
