Belgian Singer-Songwriter WAYI Drops Dreamy New Single "Insecure"
You need WAYI on your radar. Fit with an impossibly sweet voice, the Belgian singer-songwriter only has a few singles under her belt, but she’s already been garnering a whole lot of love for her slick brand of soulful R&B.
In preparation of her debut EP, Love In Progress, dropping next month, WAYI’s just released her first single of 2019, the punchy slow-jam “Insecure.”
Hear WAYI tell The Music Mermaid a little about her new single below:
“Insecure” opens with deep brass blooms and a slinky R&B rhythm before WAYI’s airy vocals come in delivering quick lines about cuffing season — in clever, clipped lyrics, she articulates the insecurity that comes from building relationships that aren’t fully engaged. You know what she means — those half-hearted connections between somebody giving a hundred percent and somebody who’s totally detached. WAYI tackles the relatable subject matter carefully, having combined her own experiences with those of others to reach the core of how it feels to love off-kilter.
Aided by a revolving arrangement of woozy jazz swells, smooth percussive shimmers, and staccato beats, WAYI’s sweet soul vocals lead the anthem. Built on a lush bed of R&B arrangements, “Insecure” is a drowsy reflection that suggests WAYI will continue to deliver her dreamy melodies in big, new ways.
