C-Pop Star KUN Releases New Trip-Hop Single "Hard To Get"
Cai Xukun is a star across Asia — as part of C-pop boy band Nine Percent, he’s made a major splash in the pop community, garnering critical acclaim, awards, and a loyal fanbase. Recently he’s been making a name for himself as KUN, breaking out from the group as a solo act. His first solo tour in the U.S. sold out immediately and found KUN mobbed by screaming fans from New York to California and more.
A few weeks ago, KUN released his newest single, “Hard To Get,” a completely addictive trip-hop track that demands repeat listening. Opening with quick, glitching electronica and smacks of drum pad beats, “Hard To Get” moves into KUN’s buttery vocals delivering a dreamy performance above that persistent bed of dark trip-hop rhythms. It’s not an in-your-face arrangement; it’s so tender — smooth and sexy in its creeping warbles of modern dance elements, this isn’t a fist-pumping, head-bopping anthem, but, rather, a drowsy reflection. “Hard To Get” is a shadowy success, a fleeting gem of ambient production that allows KUN to truly emerge as the inevitable star he is fast becoming in the U.S.
