Danish Singer-Songwriter Ida Wenøe's New Single "Another Kind of Love" Is A Dreamworld
Ida Wenøe makes music for ghosts to slow dance to. She has this magic about her, like she can summon souls and spirits in the air to spin around her. A Danish singer-songwriter, Ida blends dark folk with sweeping vintage sounds. Her new single “Another Kind Of Love,” released just a few days ago on Integrity Records, beautifully captures this combination.
Like a lullaby or a listing ship or a longtime love, “Another Kind Of Love” floats. It opens with a ghostly swell of harmonies and sweet plucks of guitar before Ida’s voice — a soft wisp — comes in. The composition is mostly minimal until distant pounds of percussion begin to loom, but still, every element of the song merges as if a polite collision brought them together. And so it goes, an impossibly lovely song skimming atop the surface of phantom waves. Later, when Ida begins to wail and the folk arrangement cries out, things get less serene and more serious, though it always remains lush in all its ghostly glory. This is a song to soothe the soul before it smashes it to pieces, an unending war so beautiful it hurts. This is the song that plays when ghosts rise up from their graves to slow dance in the moonlight, barely-there apparitions wanting and wavering and swaying to a song that sees them.
