Dream-Pop Artist, Pink Skies, Drops Sizzling Cover Of "Gettin' Old"
California-based artist Arieh Berl is no stranger to making music. His talents have been used across various indie and punk bands in the Bay Area, but recently, he launched his own ambient project, putting out deliciously dreamy work under his Pink Skies moniker. On his second single, he tackles a one-of-a-kind version of 6LACK's "Gettin' Old."
Pink Skies' interpretation of the 2016 alt-R&B track begins with a thick thump of deep synth swells. Percussion appears out of thin air and suddenly the song is taken over by a whole slew of sonic details. Arieh's voice is a smooth, mellow wisp in the deepest corners of your brain, gently offering a relaxing delivery while a slick pulsing wave of rhythm floats throughout the track. Pink Skies' version of "Gettin' Old" feels like opening a can of cold soda in the summertime; you can practically hear the initial pop of the tab, followed by fizzy melodies and refreshing surges of layered percussion. Perhaps the most satisfying part of the track is the tangy xylophone solo, rich in its sweet, deep beats, but it's tough to pinpoint one specific instance of magic when Arieh nails everything from expert production to tender vocals to hazy rhythms.
