Dreamy Dark-Pop Duo, Seasonal Beast, Aims To Hypnotize
When you put former Mountain Goats' guitarist Yuval Semo and Israeli composer Yula Beeri together, you get something truly remarkable. You get Seasonal Beast, a moody electro-pop project putting out hypnotic arrangements like fleeting, whispering dreams.
It's not just the music that stuns though. In their brand new music video for "I Can Make You Disappear," the duo invent a striking story told through movement. Teaming up with dancer Tiffany Ogburn -- whose erratic, ragdoll prancing makes for devastatingly beautiful choreography -- and an impressive creative crew, Semo himself directed and produced the visual accompaniment to the duo's eerie, glitchy dark-pop track.
The music video opens with our first few shots of Ogburn's emotional, then just as soon empty, stare before we peek into her misty bedroom, awash in soft fog, where she stitches sprawling red webs into her tulle getup. Next, we see her face off in Bushwick against a towering gentle giant: an elephant. Once the seething synth smashes in "I Can Make You Disappear," the choreography hits. Ogburn's precise, emotive movements lead her down Brooklyn streets amid pachyderm power. Elegant ballet combined with disjointed contemporary motions create a dazzling dance shared by woman and animal.
The video is entrancing, but the song itself has the same effect; like a tranquilizer, at first dulling our senses then heightening them once we come to. Cinematic piano sparkles and drunken synth seem to dance themselves, enfolding us in its dark and mesmerizing spell.
