Exclusive: Boise Rock Band MESSIMER Premiere Debut Single "I Know I Should"
Armed with his trusty guitar, his good friends Reggie Mace on bass and Dalton Mace on drums, and a penchant for penning high-energy anthems, Luke Messimer has recently forged ahead with his love affair with music, breaking out of his solo work to create the Boise-based indie-rock band MESSIMER.
Today, the boys of Boise have released their debut single, “I Know I Should.” We are so honored to exclusively premiere one of the most vibrant, frankly unbearably addictive psychedelic-tinged tracks we’ve heard.
“‘I Know I Should’ is about all of the things that race through your mind when you look back at your 20s,” Luke says. “Especially if your twenties were filled with too many regrets, too many hard lessons, and too much bourbon.” The meaning of the song might feel a little dismal, but “I Know I Should” is anything but.
Opening with a searing, sizzling surf-rock riff before the break of percussion joins the arrangement, the track is led by twangy vocals just as comfortable in the role of a clear croon as it is in the role of a flavorful falsetto. When Luke’s vocals fade out to toss the baton to the band’s remarkable multi-instrumental camaraderie, the arrangement swirls with a laidback energy that still somehow exudes an unrivaled pizzazz. There’s so much life to the track — from that insistent piano plink to the jangling drum jams to the soaring vocals and endless other elements playing whack-a-mole amid the breezy soundscape, “I Know I Should” is a dynamic debut steeped in thoughtful energy. You know, the kind of energy you’ll only get from three badass Boise talents sharing their in-your-face skills to craft a song that bubbles with high-powered passion. It would be naive to make any assumptions about what we might expect from MESSIMER next — something tells us they’ll just keep on surprising.
