Orla Gartland Releases Explosive New Pop Single "Flatline"
Orla Gartland is the second coming of the pop persuasion. Fit with a distinct voice, quick wit, and killer guitar skills, the London-based singer-songwriter has been delighting listeners for years with her fresh YouTube covers and dreamy originals.
Her latest single “Flatline,” off her upcoming EP Why Am I Like This?, is an exceptional effort from Orla. It’s everything we love from her — it’s colorful and sweetened and edgy — but there’s a new layer of top-tier mastery to it that makes it an undeniably addictive indie-pop anthem.
Hear what Orla had to tell us about the new track here:
Like Orla says, “Flatline” is an honest confession of being “a relentless people-pleaser,” reflecting on the lengths we’ll go for loyalty that isn’t reciprocated. It sucks. It’s draining. But it’s a testament to the kind of person Orla is and every other loyal, empathetic friend is. Where “Why Am I Like This?” was a ballad for the anxious, “Flatline” is an anthem for the loyal.
Propelled forward by Orla’s groovy guitar work, “Flatline” starts off with a relatively minimalist arrangement — just those rolling strums and some clacking percussion as she delivers bittersweet narrative — before bursting into an apex of neon synth-pop. At its gentlest moments, “Flatline” is a candy-coated indie ode but at its most frenzied, it’s a searing anthem of electric energy made apparent in Orla’s textured guitar work, bed of slapping synth, and versatile vocal delivery. With “Flatline,” Orla Gartland delivers an in-your-face example of pop victory.
