Levy & The Oaks Release High-Energy Pop-Rock Single "On The Run"
Levy & The Oaks are a fixture on the Asbury Park scene. Pumping out high-powered singles and taking part in tons of Jersey music traditions, the pop-rock band are beloved for their stage presence and quirky anthems, but there’s a lot lurking beneath the surface.
A few months ago, the band released “On The Run” — it’s a typical Levy & The Oaks track, bursting with energy and color, but it’s actually built on some heart-heavy themes. "For the first time in my life, I can sit here and tell you how grateful I am,” lead vocalist and songwriter Levy Okun tells The Music Mermaid. “I have new friends and new music that all stem from me being here and now — being present. It's something so simple but so hard to do,” he says. “Stop thinking of the past and future and really be present. It's right now, forever." It’s a joyous comeback for Okun, whose past holds skeletons he’s had to come to terms with. The track’s sunny tone is meant to directly mimic the self-awareness of realizing what matters — this is sweet relief for Okun and the band.
“On The Run” wastes no time. A jazzy trickle of keys marks the opening before Okun’s distinct vocals kick in with their sugary delivery. Quickly, the arrangement fills out — a robust brass section, steady smacks of percussion, searing guitar riffs, and so much more. There’s a whole lot of life to this track, teeming with bursts of light in every corner. Even when the drums dip out to clear up a woozy pop-rock soundscape, there are still layers upon layers of warm melody at play, a completely unified case of quirky multi-instrumentation giving its all for Okun’s wail to get real and, above all, get relief.
