Kansas City Indie-Rock Band, Momma's Boy, Drop Soulful New Single "Want Me Back"
Hailing from Kansas City, the guys behind indie-rock band Momma's Boy offer up dazzling anthems that bridge the gap between honest, relatable storytelling and groovy surf-rock rhythms. They've just released "Want Me Back," the final installment of their three-part single release series, a dreamy and soulful song about reciprocal love.
We knew we wouldn't be able to capture exactly what magic Momma's Boy accomplishes with this track, so we enlisted Jared Bajkowski, the band's bassist, to introduce the track. Hear what he has to say right here:
So there you have it, from the mastermind behind "Want Me Back" himself. This is the first time in the band's history that Bajkowski has offered lead vocals and songwriting to a track, accompanied by guitarists Peter Beatty and Shaun Crowley, with Quinn Hernandez on drums.
"Want Me Back" opens with twinkling keys and deep percussion (hear that wood block Jared mentioned?) before sultry vocals come in, slinking around dreamy power-pop rhythms. Groovy bass lines pump beneath high-energy surf-rock instrumentation, each band member bringing their respective all to a sonic camaraderie. When the hook hits, "ooooh you want me back," the track turns electric, jamming and buzzing with fuzzy distortion wailing. A blanket of quietude slips over "Want Me Back" at the very end before the sensual bass merges once again with moody percussion. Finally, the song ends with hazy vocal coos and a mystical guitar riff.
On "Want Me Back," the guys of Momma's Boy offer a glimmering surf-rock ballad packed with sweet intention and sexy croons. The result is the most decadent blend of warbling psychedelia and gentle indie rhythms, all designed to lull you to a luscious state of lucid dreaming.
