Golden Voiced Szjerdene Releases Cathartic New Single "Restart"
Szjerdene’s got the voice. You know what voice we’re talking about — the golden one. The one that makes you stop everything you’re doing just to soak it in. The one that slides like butter.
Yeah. That one.
The London-based vocalist caught the ear of producer Bonobo years ago and has since gone on to collab with him and other producers, lending her pipes to beds of electronica, creating new depth to their compositions.
In preparation of Szjerdene’s upcoming solo EP, Trace, she’s just released her new single “Restart,” the sonic representation of shaking the weight off your shoulders. Right away, the song welcomes Szjerdene’s ethereal vocals leading the piece — though it never feels like leading, really, because there’s nothing in-your-face or particularly assertive about it; her voice is full of such a rich warmth that it captivates in a way that every other element of the track naturally settles around it like fawning followers. As Szjerdene sings, echoing thumps of synth bloom in the background and sharp wooden tones of percussion hit. Even when the arrangement bursts into a fuller mode of warring electric and organic tones, Szjerdene’s voice remains as lustrous as it began, though sometimes it reaches new heights of emotive laments. “Restart” ends with the wail of strings, a nearly funereal conclusion to a track dripping in silken serenity.
