London Folk Duo Ferris & Sylvester Drop Heartbreaking New Single "Flying Visit"
When Issy Ferris and Archie Sylvester met three years ago, nobody knew what they’d become or the magic they’d end up making together, but we are so glad they’ve made it.
Together as Ferris & Sylvester, the London folk duo run the gamut of music — they’ve got dreamy folk ditties, sweet pop singalongs, bluesy rock slow-burns, and more under their belt already, constantly surprising listeners but always maintaining their mesmeric harmony as the thread that connects each song.
A few weeks ago, Ferris & Sylvester released their mic-drop moment with “Flying Visit.”
“Flying Visit” isn’t like other Ferris & Sylvester songs. There’s something so crushingly honest about it, lacking the subtle pep of their previous releases, side-stepping the anthemic edge to deliver a song stunning in its simplicity. “Flying Visit” is led by twangy acoustic plucks and a steady, staccato percussive beat pounded out in quick slaps beneath Issy & Archie’s pretty delivery confessing line after line of clipped, desperate pleas. You can tell “Flying Visit” hurts to sing because it hurts to hear. A poignant soft-folk ballad before it becomes ablaze in a crush of wailing strings and vocal aches, it’s a masterful example of gut-punch love and loss — quiet and creeping until it spirals, fast and hopelessly, down into the dark.
