LA Songstress, Janessa Evrist, Releases Hypnotic New Single "Show Me Something"
Based in Los Angeles, dream-pop songstress Janessa Evrist is fighting back against typical popstar roles. She's never quite related to the radio recipe; superficial content and specific rhythms designed to explode with mainstream success. Instead, Janessa employs her authentic and one-of-a-kind nature to craft her pretty tunes.
On her latest single, "Show Me Something," Janessa spins a whirling, hazy electro-pop track. The song opens with bubbling percussion as slow vocals stretch out, singing intense lyrics like "'Cause I run off of feelings, trust me, and I've never been fond of loving." Following the eerie introductory slow-jam, layers of thick beats pulse continuously and gorgeously dreamy harmonies float in the background while Janessa endlessly begs, "show me something real." Clocking in at just under three minutes, "Show Me Something" is a hypnotic dream-pop gem that is minimalist in its songwriting but vibrant in its dazzling electric instrumentation.
With a sugary voice, confessional lyrics, and blurry indie-pop rhythms, Janessa Evrist could very well share the stage (and the charts) with early 2000s ladies like Vanessa Carlton and Michelle Branch -- but a comparison doesn't seem right when Janessa is determined to offer her unapologetic, wholly original self. For this, we're grateful.
