Nashville R&B Singer Emily Chambers Drops Soulful Single "Left Alabama"
Not every big, wild, dreamy fantasy comes true, but Emily Chambers’ did. A few years ago, the Canadian powerhouse quit her 9-to-5 job in favor of pursuing music full-time, touring wherever she could in a camper van. Making her way from venue to venue, opening up for tons of brilliant artists, dropping soulful covers left and right, Emily’s gone full-throttle in pursuit of her dreams.
Last month, Emily released her latest single, “Left Alabama,” a deliciously soulful track highlighting her dusky vocals. The song kicks off with the quick beat of jazz snaps steadying a smooth rhythm beneath Emily’s raspy delivery. Suddenly we get the drop — a groovy guitar line and a masterful roll of percussion leading into its fast-paced slaps, uniting eventually with the twinkling plink of jazzy keys. Among it all (this hypnotic bed of R&B rhythms), Emily’s vocals remain at their only mode — a calm, stirring croon, keeping the peace until reaching a few breathy falsettos. “Left Alabama” luxuriates in all its golden light, moments of sweet funk spliced by slinky soul.
The music video for “Left Alabama” (directed by Ricardo Betancourt / DOP Spencer Mann) captures Emily in her carefree, light-hearted spirit as we watch soft vintage-style shots of her vibing to a seriously smile-inducing performance, free from limits and fear, just a badass artist loving the journey she’s on.
