London Singer-Songwriter Belle Mt.'s Stirring Video For "Origins"

Time and time again, London singer-songwriter Matt Belmont hits the soul in just the right spot. With each release under his alt-folk project Belle Mt., he touches on intimate feelings we’ve all felt the weight of, giving words to emotions we could never quite define.

He’s done it again with “Origins,” the newest single from Belle Mt. Heavy with soaring, desperate vocals and twinkling guitar strums, it’s yet another profound effort layered with moments of edgy alt-rock. Most of the time, Belle Mt. accompany their releases with stirring live sessions in which we witness magic unfold as each performance finds Matt + co. giving their all, but “Origins” is accompanied by an equally moving music video crafted by Mustashrik. There are no words that will do justice to the beauty Mustashrik accomplishes with this video — scenes of stark sketches of scientists cycle through quickly like a graphic novel, jetting by and morphing into the next page, traveling through black-and-white to burst into color. The sheer amount of action and emotion depicted in fleeting strokes is remarkable and the way it complements “Origins” is special. This is a worthy collaboration — as we know, pictures are worth a thousand words.

I first spoke to Mustashrik in the Spring of this year when he approached me over Instagram about the possibility of us collaborating on a music video. I took a look at his beautiful past projects with Ed Sheeran and Elvis Costello and was excited to have him come up with some visual for my songs.

I love the ‘Origins’ music video that Musta has created. It’s beautiful visually and its story carries so much depth, showing the future that we’re heading for if we don’t start to address the current climate crisis. He’s managed to take that warning and romanticise it with the idea that one of mankind’s final acts from Earth could be to spread the life that emerged on this planet to other worlds. Sometimes I interpret this as an end-of-Earth story and sometimes as a prequel to the Earth story. Either way, it’s a genius re-imagining of the concept behind the song and we’re very excited to share it.
