Soulful Singer-Songwriter Ivy Angel Drops New Single "Afterparty"
Ivy Angel is aptly named, whether she knows it or not — the “ivy” could very well be a reference to her organic talent, the way she clings to her smooth sound and works to wind her way up into the top spots in electro-pop like she deserves. “Angel,” of course, sums up the quality of her voice — heavenly, almost otherworldly, if you will. Today, Ivy Angel releases “Afterparty,” her latest single. It’s a collab with Auckland producer jei bliss, featuring his buzzy production and her powerhouse pipes.
“This track was made for people to identify with their problems in a really surface-level way,” Ivy Angel told The Music Mermaid, “and then persuade them to forget about those problems and use the beat as an escape pod to a different realm of conscious relaxation.”
It’s admittedly a lofty goal — for a song to have transformative powers — but “Afterparty” far surpasses it. Opening with the trill of strings and the neon plink of synth, the track soon makes way for Ivy Angel’s low croon, a leader of subtle force and major skill. For four minutes, she uses her impossibly sleek vocals to lead a dazzling arrangement of electro-pop goodness in the form of soft percussive slaps, synth warbles, and deep beats merging to craft an underwater soundscape. It bubbles and it bursts and it floats, an addictive R&B-tinged dance composition led by one soulful voice.
