Portland Producer Manatee Commune Releases Dreamy Collab ft. Effee
Back in 2012, Grant Eadie was Grant Eadie. Today, after years of evolving in the electronic scene, he has become Manatee Commune — a well-respected Portland producer with an undeniable knack for creating fizzy soundscapes that bubble over with frantic energy. There’s a vibrancy to Manatee Commune’s discography. There are no sharp edges to Grant’s songs, but they’re not exactly soft, either. The sound he achieves is amorphous; these vast, sprawling lengths of lawless noise that have no choice but to burst open over and over again.
Manatee Commune’s latest effort “I Can Dream” finds the PDX producer joining forces with singer-songwriter Effee. “This was one of those songs I immediately wanted to upload and share with the world when I finished it so I’m really pumped it’s finally getting out there,” Grant tells The Music Mermaid. “I had a lot of visions of spring while working on this one, so the timing is perfect. Pumped that everyone I’ve showed it to so far has been really charmed by Effee’s voice and my bouncy production.”
In typical Manatee Commune fashion, there are no slow goings to “I Can Dream.” It’s a buzzing, candy-coated piece of electro-pop sweetness you can practically feel melting on your tongue. From the get-go, “I Can Dream” trills with rapid-fire beats plinking in quick succession, one after the other, a gentle onslaught of snapping, clicking rhythm that lays a steady bed beneath Effee’s warm vocals. For nearly four minutes, the track dances through a composition dripping in the kind of sunny sugar you’ll only find on a blue-skied day. Frothy with sparkling electronic production, “I Can Dream” is a lush springtime soundtrack you’ll have no choice but to smile and sway along to.
