London-Based Singer-Songwriter MAVICA Releases Quiet Anthem "Fire"
Born in Spain and based in London resides Marta Casanova, a humble singer-songwriter putting out heart-heavy indie tracks as MAVICA. With just two singles under her belt, there’s not much known about MAVICA except that she’s got the kind of talent that moves softly, slowly, quietly as if led less by sound and more by soul.
On her debut single, “Fire,” MAVICA delivers a devastatingly lovely indie song somewhere between a ballad and an anthem. There are no wild singalong moments or punchy instrumental breakdowns, but there’s a power that pulses along like a heartbeat. Quick acoustic strums offer a twang beneath percussive slaps and dreamy swells, all while MAVICA’s distinct vocals move in and out of a breathy haze. Her articulation is mesmerizing, sweetly singing poignant lyrics with a palpable ache in her voice. The arrangement is heavy with emotion, too, offering a melancholic (and melodic) base for her broken wisp of a voice to float on. There’s so much weight to this song, it almost feels like a secret, like something that should be Marta’s alone. “Fire” is the x-ray of MAVICA’s heart. Keep it safe in your ears and treat it kindly.
