R&B Artist Taliwhoah Says Thank U, Next With Smooth Anthem "Run Along"
There’s no shortage (thank god) of post-breakup anthems. In a world where empowering bangers like “thank u, next” and “New Rules” dominate, it can be pretty hard for musicians to stand out with their own moving-on declarations. For Taliwhoah, this isn’t the case. Last month she released “Run Along,” a soulful power anthem in which she implores a past beau to, well, run along. It’s utterly addictive in its silky delivery and careful production, well-deserving of a spot up top with all the best breakup bangers of our time.
"‘Run Along’ covers a transition that had to happen to truly embrace and acknowledge my self-worth. I really dive deep into a reality I had to deal with — that many women out there have to deal with,” Taliwhoah told us about the track. “It’s a journey I had to take with the people that channel the most positive energy in me — my family — so with the track and video, I made sure I really kept it real. Really real. Everything you see is a raw and transparent walk through my heart.”
That’s the magic of “Run Along” — there is a rawness to it, a vulnerability unveiled elegantly by Taliwhoah in those bittersweet lyrics and her honest vocal delivery. The track opens with a punchy arrangement of vocal echos, rapid-fire staccato beats, and organic percussion all bouncing beneath Taliwhoah’s smooth-as-butter voice. Throughout the track, she moves from an impassioned delivery — almost like a spoken-word performance of her diary reading, full of heart and ache — to a mellow drawl. The soundscape she’s built is a buzzing, vibrant arrangement merging typical R&B elements with the loops and layers of tropical electro-pop tones. It’s a deliciously smooth anthem led by Taliwhoah’s perfect vocals at home among sultry, sunny rhythms.
