Swedish Duo FELIN Drop Colorful, Angst-Filled Anthem "21st Century"
FELIN are far from typical. Made up of singer-songwriter Elin Blom and photographer-director Fredrik Etoall, the Swedish duo are pooling their creative talents to develop an audio-visual project that awakens the mind and disturbs the senses. On their latest single, "21st Century," FELIN craft an infectious electro-pop tune for the ages.
"21st Century" opens with a deep bubbling percussion rhythm quickly followed by Elin's cool, dreamy vocals singing rebellious lines like "No authority, no one can tell us what we should believe" as a driving guitar line buzzes in the background. Fleeting pops of electrifying glitches swarm around the harmony before a high-powered arrangement kicks in, raging along with Elin's powerhouse voice. The frenzied chorus stops abruptly as the track slows down for a slinking No Doubt-esque pop rhythm, merging again with the explosion of rock instrumentation. Wailing guitar provides a mesmerizing sonic accompaniment to the vocal finale that beautifully moves from in-your-face confessions to a breathy hook. After three minutes of vibrant pop-rock flavor, the track ends far too soon, but with great power and energy.
